Alpha is a simple yet dynamic and effective way of presenting the message of Jesus in a clear and non-threatening manner to people from all walks of life - particularly those who want to explore their faith.
The Alpha Course is a 14 session, eight week practical introduction to the Christian faith. It was created to serve all who seek to learn about their faith. This includes the faithful who attend church each week as well as those who do not attend services on a regular basis. It reaches the young and the old and all faith traditions.
At each weekly session, the participants enjoy a meal together; including jokes and a relaxed time to get to know each other. After the meal there is a talk presented. After the talk the participants gather in small groups to explore and discuss their thoughts on the topic which was just presented. Trained lay people facilitate the discussions and many of the talks.
The subjects of the talks include:
- Who is Jesus and why did He die?
- Why and how should I pray?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- How does God guide us today.
- Who is the Holy Spirit and what is the role of the Holy Spirit?
- How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
- The Church
The Alpha Course is presented twice each year; once in the fall beginning in September and once in late winter/early spring beginning in January. The courses are offered during the evening beginning at 6:45pm for the community dinner and 7:15pm for the course. Some sessions include daytime courses as well.
