BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
Ministry of Consolation
The Ministry of Consolation works with grieving families in the parish in a variety of ways to comfort them in their time of sorrow.
Bereavement Support Sessions
These 6-week sessions, offered twice a year, are led by certified bereavement counselors who provide an opportunity for members to share their grief with one
another, pray together and learn practical ways to deal with the stages of grief. Additional single sessions are offered prior to the holidays each year.
For more information and session dates, please contact Alice Ferfolia at (216) 375-1308.
Funeral Luncheons
Families who celebrate a funeral or memorial Mass at St. Basil's may request the services of the Servant Lunch committee which will organize, host and serve a
meal in our Family Life Center following the service.
Visitation and Follow-Up Support
Members of the ministry will attend the Wake, phone the next-of-kin, and send cards and messages of consolation as needed.
Funeral Resources
We know that planning the funeral of a loved one can be a very difficult task. As you begin your planning, we want to first assure you of our prayers as you
prepare and plan for the Mass of Christian Burial for your departed loved one. It is our hope that your participation in the planning and celebration of the
Mass of Christian Burial will provide consolation and support to you at this difficult time.
We have put together information to assist you in your planning. We suggest that you start by downloading the
Funeral Planning Guide (pdf) and
suggested songs and hymns (pdf).
This guide will provide you with the basics for planning the Funeral. You will find suggestions for the First and Second Reading, along with song suggestions
for the Opening, Offertory, Communion and Closing processions and for the Responsorial Psalm between the readings. Please know that the priest who will
meet with you will help you with completion of this guide and the selection of songs.
We are honored to work with you during this time and wish to assist you in any manner that we can. Please do not hesitate to contact any one of the priests or
Nancy Jovanov, our Music Director, at any time by calling (440) 526-1686.
