Rev. John T. Ciolek

John Thomas Ciolek, son of the late John and Mary Ciolek, was born in Cleveland on November 24th, 1913.  He was educated at St. Columbkille parish school, St. Ignatius High School, John Carroll University, and St. Mary Seminary.  On April 2nd, 1938, Bishop Joseph Schrembs ordained him to the priesthood at he Catherdral of St. John the Evangelist.

His first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish in Cleveland.  In 1946 he was transferred to St. Anthony and St. Bridget Parish where he served until 1949.  He was named assistant pastor at St. Michael Church, Independence, on March 1st, 1949.  In 1957 he was assigned to St. John Cathedral where he served until 1960.

On June 21st, 1960, he became the Pastor of the newly established St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville.  He served there until his retirement in 1983. 

As Pastor he was responsible for organizing the parish community and constructing the parish buildings.  Fr. Ciolek also served as an Ohio National Guard Chaplain, Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus, and Spiritual Director of the Suburban Southwest Deanery Holy Name Societies.

Fr. Ciolek was known as a gentle priest with a real gift for making people feel welcome.  He was well loved by his parishioners who appreciated his quiet but effective leadership.  He succeeded in establishing a strong sense of  family within his large parish.  He was especially supportive of and helpful to many of his brother priests.

Fr. John T. Ciolek died on September 25th, 1986 at Marymount Hospital.  The Funeral Mass was on September 30, 1986 at 11:00am at St. Basil the Great Church.  Bishop Anthony Pilla was the main celebrant and Fr. Charles Byrider was the homilist.  Burial was in All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio.

Rev. Edward J. Camille

Edward J. Camille was born October 18, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Wander (nee Synokowski) Camille.

He attended Holy Name grade school and high school, St. Charles College in Baltimore, Maryland and St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio.

On May 24th, 1958, Bishop Edward F. Hoban (later Archbishop Edward F. Hoban) ordained him into the priesthood at St. John Catherdal.  He was assigned Assistant Pastor at St. Thomas Aquinas, Cleveland, in June 1958.  He was a student of The Catholic University of America where he earned his M.S.W degree (Master of Social Work).

Fr. Camille was Assistant Pastor at St. Peter Church, Cleveland, and part-time Assistant to Director of Catholic Charities, June 1963 to October 1964.  He was named full-time Assistant to the Catholic Charities Bureau Director, with residence at St. Ignatius Parish, Cleveland, in October 1964.

From 1968 to 1977 he was Assistant Director of Catholic Charities, and also served as Administrator at Holy Trinity Parish on Woodland Avenue, Cleveland, in August of 1968.  He was appointed Pastor at Holy Trinity Parish and St. Edward Parish on July 1st, 1975.

Fr. Camille served as Secretary for Social Concerns from June 21st, 1975 to November 24th, 1983.  From June 1st, 1980 to November 24th, 1983, he was Co-Pastor of St. Patrick Church on Bridge Avenue in Cleveland.

His additional assignments consisted of Coordinator and Liaison between Catholic Interracial Council and other agencies / organizations in the Diocese of Cleveland, and Director of Peace Project (educational and social service programs for children and adults in the inner city).  He served as Spiritual Director and Moderator of the Christ Child Society from October 28, 1965 to April 6, 1984.  He was named Director of Catholic Charities and served from November 29th, 1977 to August 1st, 1980.

On November 24th, 1983 he was named Pastor of St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville, Ohio.  While pastor, he guided the parish through the extensive remodeling of the Parish Center and the Education Center.

In 1994, due to failing health, Fr. Camille resigned his pastoral duties and resided as Pastor Emeritus at St. Basil the Great.  On March 14, 2002, Fr. Camille joined our Heavenly Father.
