CYO Grade School Volleyball

Grade School Volleyball (3rd-8th) registration is now OPEN.  REGISTER HERE.  Good luck to all our St. Basil teams this season!
Practices start in August with the first game typically starting on the last Saturday or Sunday of August. All schedules will be posted on the CYO website.  For the younger grades there are 8 games and 10 games for the older grades. CYO offers a tournament at the end of the season for the 6-8th grade teams that qualify. There are also sanctioned CYO tournaments throughout the season.
Update:  We are experiencing very positive growth in the interest in the volleyball program.  As a result, we have a need to add more coaches to the program for the upcoming season.  If you are able to help or know someone who is interested in coaching, please contact the St. Basil Athletic Director, Joe Canzano at (440)465-1850.

CYO Fall Cross Country

CYO cross country is the team sport of distance running for both boys and girls. It gives you a chance to make new friends, exercise and have fun with other children from your parish. It is open to all 1st thru 8th grade parish members from St. Basil. No prior running experience is necessary.
What are races like?
Races (called meets) are held in September and October. The races are held at various parks throughout the diocese. The race courses are usually a combination of trails and fields. We do not run on tracks or roads. Everyone on the team gets to race. Nearly one thousand children from parishes throughout the diocese compete at the meets each week. The races are divided into groups based on grade level and gender.
We host the CYO Brecksville meet each season, typically in September. We are required to provide all of the volunteers for the meet, participation is mandatory from all families at this meet so that we can spread the duties of the meet out enabling all parents to watch and cheer while their child(ren) are racing. This is a ONE TIME commitment during the season. Your help is what makes this meet one of the best during the season!
* Note: See the top of the Intramurals Page at the following link for more details on our program for girls and boys entering the 1st and 2nd grade in the fall. There are no volunteers needed for intramural meets.
What are practices like?
We practice as a team 3 nights a week, typically Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but this will be confirmed prior to the start of the season. Practices begin at 6:00 PM and end at 7:15pm. Practices are held in various places throughout the Brecksville Reservation in the Metroparks. Practices begin in August and run through mid-October. We encourage you to attend as many practices as possible, but we understand when you cannot attend practice due to other commitments. We begin practice with a prayer, then we warm up, run, stretch, and sometimes we even play games. We do require that all runners sign in and out of each practice. Coaches run with the team at all practices, parents are welcome and encouraged to run at practice as well, but are not required to participate.
Team traditions include pasta dinners following select practices during the season, as well as the Cross Country Club run at the end of the season. The end of season banquet is held in October. More details on these events during the season.
FIRST PRACTICE is Monday, July 30 at 6pm at Oak Grove in the Metroparks Brecksville Reservation.
REQUIRED PARENT MEETING will be held during our first practice on Monday, July 30 at 6pm.
What equipment/gear is required to participate?
All runners will need to provide their own running shoes (NO slip on shoes, Keds, etc. will be allowed at practice). This is for your runner’s safety. Spikes may be worn for MEETS ONLY. This is OPTIONAL and not required. We offer a Spike Rental Program – $10 to rent for the season, you may need to supply new spikes due to wear. They are a minimal cost and can be purchased locally at Vertical Runner of Brecksville. More information will be available regarding renting spikes during our Parent Meeting at the start of the season.
All runners will need to be dressed appropriately for practice and will need to provide their own water at practice.
