Employer Sites or Online Job Boards:
What Works?

30 September 2003

A recent report from Transformation Systems Incorported (TSI) determines that while 74% of US job seekers say they rely on Internet job boards for potential employment, only 57% have actually had success with online job boards.

The remaining 43% say they have experienced past success with certain employers' Web sites.

TSI surveyed 591 online job seekers, solicited from DirectEmployers.com. Of the people surveyed, 62% were male and 39% were employed. When asked particularly about their past job search, 31% of respondents said they used the Web site of an employer only "moderately," whereas 58% said they used job boards "to a great extent." Interestingly, only 20% say they are comfortable "to a great extent" with posting their resumes online.

Reviewing activity at both education and career sites, Nielsen//NetRatings finds that Monster.com is still the most-used online job board, with over 2.2 million unique visitors during the week ending 25 May. Yahoo! HotJobs follows with 811,000 unique visitors, and CareerBuilder claims third place with a unique audience of 793,000 during the week.
