Matrimony

More than a human institution

Raised by Christ to the dignity of a grace-giving Sacrament

Lifelong Love

Marriage

The married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by Him with its own proper laws.  Marriage is not a purely human institution because God Himself is the author of marriage.  The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they come from the hand of the Creator.

Couples who plan to be married at St. Basil are required to make an appointment with a parish priest or deacon at least six months prior to the proposed wedding date. The preparation process will be explained to the couple at that meeting, and the wedding date and time will be reserved in the Mass book.  Contact the parish office at 440-526-1686.

As a part of the preparation process, there is a Pre-Cana Day at the Parish Center each year. This is a one-day program designed to create an increased awareness of the responsibilities and realities of Christian married life. A team of married couples are the presenters.  Email precana@basilthegreat.org for details.

Most couples preparing for marriage will also be assigned a mentor couple to meet and discuss with a few times throughout their engagement period.

What is NFP?

Natural Family Planning (NFP) is Fertility awareness that can be used to postpone or achieve a pregnancy.  NFP is scientifically based on the woman’s pattern of fertility and infertility.  When practicing NFP, couples learn to understand, respect, and appreciate their combined fertility.

  • NFP requires no drugs, chemical, devices, or surgical interventions.

  • The Sympto-Thermal Method is 99% effective at postponing pregnancy.

  • NFP can help couples with low fertility achieve pregnancy.

  • NFP improves communication in your marriage.

  • NFP can help strengthen your marriage by following God’s plan for marriage to love one another freely, totally, faithfully, and fruitfully.
