Partnership Mission Statement

Parish Partnership with St. Catherine Church
Our parish family, St. Basil the Great, enjoys and celebrates a "partnership" with St. Catherine Church in Cleveland. In response to Bishop Anthony M. Pilla's Church in the City initiative of the early 1990's, St. Basil and St. Catherine Churches made a cooperative, spirit-filled decision to begin partnering together in the way of shared faith, ministry, and community.

St. Catherine Church is a small, primarily African-American community on East 93rd Street and Union Avenue. Like St. Basil the Great Parish, it is a free-standing parish responsible for its own finances, ministries, and worship. But, in response to the gospel call of becoming, more fully, the body of Christ, our parishes choose to build community together as well. In fact, we are empowered by the following joint mission statement:

We, the Catholic parish communities of St. Basil and St. Catherine, recognize that as children of God and disciples of Jesus, we are one Church and one body.

We strive to be a living example of transcending the barriers that divide us as God's people by gathering together and seeking to do God's will through:

- shared experiences of worship, prayer, and spiritual growth.
- getting to know, understand and appreciate each other and our common needs and struggles.
- recognizing, welcoming, and sharing our different gifts.
- finding the best ways to serve the needs of people in our parishes and the surrounding community.

And, there is more…
