CYO Sports

October 4th Update From the Athletic Director:
Hello all,
On behalf of the St. Basil Athletic Association, I’m pleased to report that with the input and guidance from the St. Basil Parish staff and Diocese of Cleveland CYO, we have proceeded with Grade School Volleyball and Cross Country this Fall.  We are grateful for the guidance and support of the Parish as we strive to provide the benefits of CYO sports to our participants.
At this time, we are opening up Pre-Registration for the Winter Basketball Season.  This is not a guarantee that there will be a season, but it will allow us to plan ahead in the situation where Cleveland CYO and our Parish elect to proceed with one.  For more information, please click the “Winter Sports” icon below.
Please be aware that the situation is fluid, and may change as dictated by the public health situation, and guided by our Parish Administration and Diocese of Cleveland CYO.  We are all hopeful that the season can happen as planned, but need to be understanding that things outside our individual control may impact its completion.  We will begin forming teams soon, but participation in practices and games will be determined by certain factors including, but not limited to:
  • Completion of waivers and parental acknowledgement documentation for ALL players prior to any participation.
  • The strict adherence by all coaches, parents and athletes to the relevant safety protocols and procedures.
  • The local city school district’s decisions regarding participation in basketball.
To quote our new Administrator, Fr. Ryan Mann:  We all agree these steps are trying, but the perceived risks are daunting, and in order to be prudent, and truly gospel centered in our approach, we must make sacrifices to ensure “love of neighbor.”
Thank you for your participation, patience and assistance as we navigate this new season of CYO sports!
Best regards,

Joe Canzano
